The two-week closure of Newtown Turnpike (Route 53) north of Valley Forge Road ended today as repairs were made on the section of roadway undermined by flooding on August 18.

Crews dispatched by the Department of Transportation performed reconstruction, slope stabilization, and channel relocation on the affected areas. The road had been closed from Valley Forge Road in Weston to the intersection of Tudor Road in Redding.

Weston Police Sgt. Joe Miceli, the Town’s emergency operations director, said that while the road is now open, motorists should “please be mindful” that work remains to be done and crews may still be active.
