Mark Twain Book Fair, Labor Day Weekend

The 63rd annual Mark Twain Library Book Fair takes place on all four days of Labor Day weekend, featuring more than 60,000 selections in 75 categories, geared to all ages.

It all happens at the Redding Community Center, 37 Lonetown Road in Redding.

Entry is free, except for the first hour on Friday morning, when early birds can get first dibs for $20.

Organizers report that an uncommonly large array of history books in good condition are available this year, covering both world wars and the Korean and Vietnam wars.

Also in abundant supply, thanks to several hundred more donations than last year: titles that will appeal to art enthusiasts and lovers of coffee table books.

The book fair also offers an extensive classical CD collection (donated by a public radio station converting to all-digital), books of fairy tales and folk tales, vintage paperback science fiction and fantasy titles, and a sizable collection of Sherlock Holmes books.

Days and hours

  • Friday, August 30: 9:00 – 4:00. 9:00 to 10:00 is reserved for early birds, who pay a $20 admission fee. Tickets for that hour are sold on site, starting at 8:00 am.
  • Saturday, August 31: 10:00 – 4:00.
  • Sunday, September 1: 10:00 – 4:00. On Sunday, books are sold at half price.
  • Monday, September 2: 9:00 – 4:00. On Monday, shoppers can fill an entire box for just $10. A box is provided.

Food is sold on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Parking is free, and credit cards are accepted.

The Book Fair is an important fundraising event for the Mark Twain Library, which was started by Mark Twain more than 100 years ago as a place for the community to gather and to build on his literary legacy.
