Arts Festival & Movie, Labor Day Weekend

A Labor Day weekend celebration of the arts features a screening of a classic movie — “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” — and the debut of The Weston Invitational Arts Festival.

Everything takes place on Saturday August 31 and Sunday September 1 on the Weston schools campus.

The arts festival, hosted by Gordon Fine Arts, runs both days on the Hurlbutt Elementary field from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. It is a juried arts fair with original works by over 75 invited artists.

On Saturday evening at the Weston Middle School field, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” is the latest in the popular Movie Under the Stars series put on by the Weston Commission for the Arts.

At 5:30, pre-show festivities include music by The Bar Car Band and plenty of food, beverages, and treats. The movie starts just after sunset. The arts commission notes that Rocky Horror is an R-rated flick and therefore not appropriate for younger ages.

Works in the Invitational Arts Festival include paintings, photography, drawings, prints, sculptures, mixed media, jewelry, ceramics, fiber, metal and glass pieces, all available for collecting in every price range.

The festival also features live musical performances on both days, including Justin Stenger on guitar and cello and the band MOSS. There will be free hands-on children’s arts activities and a variety of food and beverage offerings.

Admission is free, and the event is rain or shine, under tents.
