Officer Robert Durkin was sworn in as the newest member of Weston’s police department in a Town Hall ceremony on August 20.
First Selectwoman Samantha Nestor administered the oath of office. In keeping with Weston tradition, Officer Durkin’s wife pinned on his badge while their children looked on.
Police Commission chair Beth Gralnick said the commission chose Officer Durkin, who for the past 27 years was a member of the Bethel police department, “for his many years of service as a police officer and his dedication to law enforcement.”
The audience, which included several of Officer Durkin’s Bethel colleagues, also heard from commission vice chair Peter Ottomano, who spoke of the importance of professionalism in policing regardless of a town’s size.
Police Chief Ed Henion described the selection process as “very competitive,” and said it included a written examination, several interviews, and an extensive background check.
“We are very lucky to get an officer of Bob’s experience and quality,” said the chief.
