Turnout in the August 13 Republican primary was light throughout the state and particularly thin in Weston, by our calculation reaching only 6.8 percent.
On the ballot in Weston were Republican nominees for the U.S. Senate and 4th Congressional district, offices currently held, respectively, by Senator Chris Murphy and Rep. Jim Himes, both Democrats. There was no Democratic primary in Weston’s congressional and legislative districts.
106 ballots were cast in Weston, including 25 in seven days of early voting and five absentees.
Weston Republican voters strongly favored the candidates endorsed by the party organization, Gerry Smith for the U.S. Senate and Bob MacGuffie for the House. However, both eventually lost: Mr. Smith to challenger Matthew Corey, Mr. MacGuffie to Dr. Michael Goldstein.
