A primary on August 13 will choose Republican nominees for November’s general election for the U.S. Senate and Connecticut’s 4th congressional district.

Seven days of early voting start on August 5.

In Weston, these are the only contests, and there is no Democratic primary.

On the ballot for United State Senator are Gerry Smith, who won the Republican convention endorsement in May, and Matthew M. Corey. The winner will be up against incumbent Democratic Senator Chris Murphy in November. Mr. Smith is from Beacon Falls, Mr. Corey from Manchester.

For Representative in Congressional District 4, the candidates are Bob MacGuffie, of Fairfield (the party’s endorsed candidate) and Michael Goldstein, of Greenwich. The winner will face incumbent Democratic Rep. Jim Himes.
