The Bible used by George Washington at his inauguration as the first president of the United States will be on display on Saturday, May 18 at Westport Masonic Lodge Temple #65, 210 Post Road East in Westport.
Printed in London in 1765, what is now known as the George Washington Inaugural Bible can be viewed by the public from 2:00 to 5:00 on the second floor of the Temple Lodge.
The Bible has also been used in the inaugurations of Presidents Warren G. Harding, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Jimmy Carter, and George H.W. Bush. It was loaned to President Washington by its then and current owner, St. John’s Lodge No. 1 in New York.
The Westport Lodge arranged with St. John’s Lodge to make Saturday’s display possible, the first appearance of the George Washington Inaugural Bible in Connecticut.
