Weston High School students Nate Colman and Jonah Rothlein are the grand prize winners of C-SPAN’s annual StudentCam competition, awarded $5,000 for their documentary, “Innocents Held Hostage: Navigating Past and Future Conflicts with Iran.”

The film, which airs on C-SPAN on April 21 at 6:50 am and throughout the day, features an interview with Morad Tahbaz, the Weston resident who was imprisoned in Iran for six years before being released last September.

The C-SPAN competition, now in its 20th year, asked middle and high school students across the country to address the theme, “Looking Forward while Considering the Past.” More than 3,200 students from 42 states and Washington, D.C. submitted entries.

Videos were evaluated by a panel of educators and C-SPAN representatives based on the competition’s theme. High School students competed regionally; middle school students were judged on a national basis. The grand prize winner was selected nationally among all regions and grade levels.
