Westport: What’s Happening

In a podcast by the Y’s Men of Westport-Weston, Westport First Selectwoman Jen Tooker is joined by Westport Police Lt. Jillian Cabana, cautioning residents about a rash of scams and advising residents to contact the police immediately if they believe they may or have been victimized.

Scams include phishing emails and texts ostensibly from the IRS, who only communicate with taxpayers by postal mail. Lt. Cabana advises walking mail into the post office, not even using one of the blue boxes outside, to avoid the risk of check washing. She also advises against leaving handbags and wallets inside a vehicle, and checking your credit report at least once a year.
