1940s Games and Art at WHCC

The Weston History & Culture Center offers two 90-minute programs in August for children ages six to ten, one for fun and games of the 1940s, the other all about Weston artists.

Both are free, thanks to a grant from Connecticut Humanities and being part of the state’s CT Summer at the Museum initiative. Registration is required, links are below.

The 1940s Fun & Games Kids Camp runs on Thursday, August 17. Weston Illustrated Art Camp runs on Wednesday, August 23. Both camps are from 10:00 am to 11:30 am.

The instructor for both programs is Samantha Fargione, a licensed educator and the Center’s executive director. She will be assisted by three college and high school interns majoring in history.

Both programs offer a mix of activities indoors and out as weather permits. Kids should bring water, but not food.

In the Fun & Games Camp on the 17th, kids will create crafts and artwork from the 1940s, type on a real typewriter, dial a rotary phone, listen to an old radio show, and learn about the life of children in the era. Registration is open now.

In the Weston Illustrated Art Camp on the 23rd, campers will learn about artists who lived and created in Weston, go on a scavenger hunt through the new Weston Illustrated exhibition, create a cartoon strip, sculpt with clay, create a toy, and try their hands at abstract art. Registration for this program is also open.

The Weston History & Culture Center is located at 104 Weston Road. Parking is free in the Center’s lot on High Acre Road. Campers can check in at the Visitor’s Center, the red building next to the parking lot.
