It’s Your Y, So Take a Selfie

The Westport Weston Family YMCA invites members and the whole community to celebrate the Y’s upcoming 100-year anniversary.

With the help of local artist Miggs Burroughs, the Y has organized “This is My Y,” a selfie art project.

This is the idea: when you are in or around the Y, take a picture of yourself. Or have someone else take it. Either way, have it be a photo that says something about the Y that makes it special to you, an image that says “this is my Y.”

Take the picture anywhere photography is permitted on the YMCA property, which includes the Mahackeno Outdoor Center and the Bedford Family Center. Maybe you are a fan of the outdoor pool. Maybe you like to shoot hoops in the gym. Maybe you pump iron in the Wellness Center. You get the idea. Avoid unwittingly capturing other people’s faces in your photo.

Next, by August 4 (the deadline), email the picture to: 100years@westporty.org.

Send a high-quality photo. Make sure your email software doesn’t automatically shrink it. The setting should specify sending the photo in its original, actual, or largest size.

Submissions will be curated and used for an art installation, all part of the celebration.

The Y holds a centennial gala on the evening of October 6, a “Sneaker Ball” at the recently renovated Mahackeno Outdoor Center with cocktails, food, dancing, a live auction, and more. Tickets are on sale at westporty.org, as is information about sponsorship opportunities.
