A new novel by Weston author Loraine Sievers features in a five-author mystery panel event at Wesleyan University’s RJ Julia bookstore on Wednesday, July 19.

The event, the latest in the RJ Julia Local & Independent Author series, takes place on the 19th at 5:00 pm at 413 Main Street in Middletown.

Ms. Sievers’s novel, “An UNwilling Spy,” is about a young American staff member at the United Nations, who, after being struck in a traffic incident at the height of the Cold War, finds herself menaced, of interest to the FBI, and threatened by clashing interests.

Ms. Sievers knows a thing or two about the United Nations. In her long career at the UN, she has written professional publications, co-authored the Security Council’s procedure manual, gives seminars to incoming Security Council members on how the Council really works, and provides guidance on Council procedures to members, member states, academics, and journalists.

She is also quite fond of the UN building and its extraordinary art collection, which features in her novel. “An UNwilling Spy” takes readers into UN world never seen in televised meetings or by tourists, where a dangerous web tightens around the young staff member.

More information about Ms. Sievers, her novel, and the other authors on the July 19 mystery panel can be found here.
