Musical Introduction to a Novel, April 23

A musical introduction to “The Final Revival of Opal & Nev,” a novel, will be performed by pianist Joseph Bush and singer Chavon Hampton on Sunday afternoon, April 23 in the Library’s Community Room at 3:00.

The program, sponsored by the Friends of the Weston Public Library, is an innovative way to introduce a work of literature through musical performances that represent a novel’s themes and scenes.

An accomplished pianist, Mr. Bush teaches privately at a studio with more than 50 students and is a frequent accompanist for music groups in Fairfield County and the greater New York metropolitan area.

Ms. Hampton is a Broadway actress, singer, and dancer. Her theatrical credentials include Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, Hairspray, Starlight Jones, and Dream Girls.

She has appeared in a number of television commercials and recently joined the cast of NBC’s The Amber Ruffin Show as a backup singer and dancer.

About the novel

“The Final Revival of Opal & Nev” is the acclaimed debut novel by Dawnie Walton. It is this year’s adult selection for the All CT Reads program.

The novel tells the story of “the meteoric rise of an iconic interracial rock duo in the 1970s, their sensational breakup, and the dark secrets unearthed when they try to reunite decades later for one last tour.”

A New York Times Book Review declared that the book “feels truer and more mesmerizing than some true stories. It’s a packed time capsule that doubles as a stick of dynamite.”

Ms. Walton’s novel was also named one of the best books of 2021 by Good Morning America, the Washington Post, NPR, Esquire, Entertainment Weekly, Goodreads, Reader’s Digest, Kirkus Reviews, and Amazon.
