Ian Parsells during his Board of Selectmen interview

After a comprehensive search process, the Weston Public Library Board of Trustees announces that Ian Parsells has been unanimously approved by the Board of Selectmen to serve as the new Director of the Weston Public Library.

Mr. Parsells, an innovative and respected leader in the field, has served as Head Librarian/Director of the Derby Neck Library Association in Derby, Connecticut since 2011 and serves on the Bibliomation Board of Directors.

He has also served as a strategic community ambassador and leveraged partnerships to design programs and services tailored to the needs of his patrons.

“Ian has proven to be a creative, responsive, dynamic, and deliberate leader,” said Lori Goertz, chair of the Board of Trustees. “He comes to us with the experience and talent to maintain and expand the Library’s services and programming driven by community needs. We’re thrilled to welcome him to Weston.”

The Board thanks the members of the Search Committee and Helene Murtha Dooley for her assistance as a consultant throughout the process. Thanks also to Marian Amodeo for her contributions.

“I am beyond honored and fortunate to have been selected for the position of Director of the Weston Public Library,” said Mr. Parsells. “Thank you to everyone involved in the selection process for your hard work and for having the confidence in me to take on this great responsibility. I look forward to working alongside the staff, the Library Board, The Friends of the Weston Library, Town Hall, and community partners to continue bringing excellent service, collections, and programming to the Weston community.”

Mr. Parsells began his library career in 2010 as a Teen Reference Librarian at Glen Rock Public Library in New Jersey. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in literature from Ramapo College and a master of library and information science from Rutgers University.

First Selectwoman Samantha Nestor said, “Our library is the heart of our community and we’re excited for what the future holds under Ian’s leadership.”

Mr. Parsells fills the position vacated by Karen Tatarka, who is now the Library Director of the UConn Hartford Library. He will assume his role on March 6. A reception will be held to provide the community an opportunity for introductions and to welcome Mr. Parsells to Weston.
