The annual toy drive by the Weston Police Benevolent Association is running now, with a fun event coming soon. The drive benefits children, particularly some with special needs.

Gifts can be dropped off anytime between now and December 20 at the Weston Police Department lobby, opposite the Library.

On Saturday, December 10 at Weston Shopping Center, police officers are collecting donations in person from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and holding a “Stuff a Police Humvee” event. Children will enjoy a hot beverage and have a chance to check out the police Humvee, quads, and patrol cars.

The event will help Weston officers fill police vehicles with new unwrapped toys and gifts to benefit children in town and also at the Early Childhood Center of the Danbury Public School System, a preschool designed and built to educate children with special needs.

The school staff asks that donations be “cause and effect” items made for preschool age children, toys that are interactive and stimulate thought and motor skills.

The school also needs Play-Doh, clay, paint, construction paper, balls, and “Little Tikes” type plastic playground equipment, new or lightly used. Also being collected: new or lightly used children’s winter coats and clothing.

Last year’s event was a huge success, and the PBA greatly appreciates Weston’s generosity.
