Concert Series Set at Emmanuel Church

A concert series at Emmanuel Church kicks off on November 6 with contestants in New Paradigm Theatre’s “So Ya Wanna Be a Broadway Star?” program.

The next two weeks feature return engagements by, on November 13, the Yale Alley Cats and on the 20th, the Fontenay Chamber Players.

On November 6, the New Paradigm singers take the stage at 1:00 pm. Tickets are $10.

The 21 contestants will be judged by a panel of four big Broadway names, including Emmy and Grammy award winner Paul Bogaev, casting director Jamibeth Margolis, West End London star Craig Pinder, and artist and producer Rahsaan Langley.

Part of the fun is that the audience will select a Fan Favorite, who will win a cash prize.

Yale Alley Cats

The Yale Alley Cats, appearing on November 13, are an a capella singing group that perform original arrangements from jazz standards to Motown, timeless oldies, and contemporary chart-toppers. The show starts at 4:00. Tickets are $20, at the door.

The group formed in 1943 at Yale University, when its founders serenaded the campus from atop Saybrook Tower with “Sally in Our Alley,” still the Cats’ traditional opening number. Since then, they have traveled the globe, released several dozen albums, and performed for presidents, kings, and queens.

Fontenay Chamber Players

The Fontenay Chamber Players, seven members from the tristate region, formed in 2003. Their performances have been described as a “radiant meshing of color” in a “brilliant tour de force.” The show starts at 4:00. Tickets are $20, at the door.

The group’s name is an indication of its inspiration, a reference to a French town connected to Maurice Ravel, the legendary composer whose luminous Introduction and Allegro was originally conceived as a miniature harp concerto, later arranged for piano and for orchestra, but in its most popular form performed by seven instruments.
