“Jack O’Lantern Stroll,” October 23

The Weston History & Culture Center (formerly the Weston Historical Society) hosts a fun Halloween event on Sunday, October 23: a “Jack O’Lantern Stroll” with cash prizes awarded to the top three hand-carved pumpkins, as determined by a vote of those attending.

The third annual Stroll takes place from 2:00 to 5:00 on the 23rd.

Families wishing to participate by carving pumpkins and donating them for the Stroll can drop them off between 8:30 and 11:30 on the morning of the event. Sign up by October 22 on the organization’s website. There is no fee, and those donating will get a free ticket to the Stroll.

The History & Culture Center has some advice: carve pumpkins no earlier than 72 hours before the event, so they arrive fresh.

The jack-o’-lanterns will light up the Stroll on the 23rd. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children age 3 to 17, and free for ages 2 and under. Purchase tickets at westoncthistory.org or at the door. If weather doesn’t cooperate, tickets will be honored on the rain date, Sunday, November 6.

Visitors to the Jack O’Lantern Stroll can come dressed in Halloween costumes, follow the trail of jack-o’-lanterns, vote for their favorites, watch corn being shelled, and learn about harvest time on a farm inside the Coley Barn.
