YMCA Hosts Open Water Swim, July 10

On Sunday morning July 10, the Westport Weston Family YMCA holds its Point-to-Point Compo Beach Charity Open Water Swim, a one-mile swim that begins near the Compo Beach cannons.

This is the 43rd edition of the Y’s Point-to-Point swim, a popular event that draws competitors from throughout the tri-state area and much of New England.

The swim is organized into four heats, based on ability. Advanced swimmers start first, at 8:00, followed a few minutes later by intermediates, then beginners, then those with special needs or disabilities.

In the latter case, the Y has partnered with myTeam Triumph, a national nonprofit that supports children, teens, adults, and veterans who would otherwise be unable to engage in endurance events. Volunteer teams use rafts and other special racing equipment to assist these athletes.

Early registration for the swim at westporty.org/43rd/ is $50. At Compo Beach on the day of the event, registration is $60. Check-in and same-day registration opens at 7:00 am.

Those wishing to participate with myTeamTriumph must register in advance on the organization’s website.

Awards will be presented to the top three men’s and women’s open swim finishers. Registered swimmers get an official Point-to-Point swim cap and t-shirt.

Proceeds from the event go to the Y’s aquatics programs, which include swim lessons that teach lifesaving water skills to children and adults.
