Weston girls wrapped up their indoor track season in fine style, placing second in the Class M State Championship on February 10 and registering excellent results in the State Open on February 19.

Combining strong individual performances and the traditional Trojan depth in relays, the team scored 63 points in the Championship meet and were just edged out by Sheehan’s 68.75.

Junior star Ellison Weiner led the way with a winning leap in the pole vault at 11'6". She also anchored the 4x400 meter relay to victory in 4:13.11, where she teamed with Sophia Taylor, Abigail Miles and Amelia Rudolph.

The Trojans were the only team to score points in all the relays with a fourth place in the 4x200 meters (Weiner, Taylor, Miles and Brooke Wagner), a second place in the Sprint Medley (Taylor, Wagner, Keira Seibert and Charlotte Carter), and a second in the 4x800 meters (Carter, Campbell Clemens, Sadie August, and Kathleen Saussy), where they lost to Ledyard by less than a second.

Additional points came on the track from Miles (third) and Rudolph (sixth) in the 600 meters, and a fourth place from Jane Smith in the 3200 meters. Smith continues to improve, her time of 11:58.31 set a new school record.

Trojan depth was also on display in the field events where Sofia Zharyy scored a third in the shot put, Jianna Blunschi took fourth in the pole vault, and Wagner was fifth in the long jump.

At the Open Championship, the team scored 16 points to tie Newtown for eleventh place. Danbury, led by three-event winner Alanna Smith, won the meet with 36 points. Weiner again won the pole vault with a jump of 11 feet and made three strong attempts at a personal best 11'9", but came up just short.

Weiner also anchored the 4x400 meters to a fourth place finish with a time of 4:09.48, their best time of the year. She, Taylor, Rudolph and Miles will journey to Boston to compete in the New England Championships. Also competing in Boston will be the fifth place 4x800 meters relay team of Saussy, Clemens, Rudolph and Carter.
