Artists: Design an Album Cover, Win $1,000

Painters, illustrators, photographers and the like have an opportunity to design artwork for a vinyl LP being released by the Westport Library.

A $1,000 prize will be awarded to the artist whose work is chosen.

Entries are due by March 25 at versoalbum.artcall.org. Only those 14 years and older are eligible.

On April 9, the Westport Library will release “Compilation Volume 1” on Verso Records, an independent label of Verso Studios, the Westport Library’s media resources and production center.

The label’s debut album will be a limited-press compilation of music by artists in Connecticut and the wider tri-state area. Tracks were recorded live at Verso Studios, covering genres ranging from jazz and rock to folk and indie.

The Artists Collective of Westport will oversee judging of album cover art by a jury that includes Neal Smith, the original drummer for the rock group Alice Cooper.

Artwork must be 12"x12" at a minimum of 300 dpi, submitted as a TIFF, JPEG, PNG, or PDF file. Guidance for entering art can be found on versoalbum.artcall.org.

Verso notes that its art department may crop the material and add text at its discretion.
