Police Commission Meeting Over-Zoomed, Rescheduled

Tuesday evening’s meeting of the Board of Police Commissioners was called off after several members of the Board were stuck in the Zoom waiting room with members of the public, too many for the police Zoom account to handle.

The net result was a lack of the quorum needed to proceed. The meeting has been rescheduled for Thursday evening, May 6, at 7:00.

Commissioners are expected to hear from Walter Simpson, a Weston resident who was the subject of a 911 call and police response when he collected his mail and waited for his child’s school bus. Race appears to be a factor in the 911 call, and Mr. Simpson is said to object to the responding police officer’s conduct and the manner in which his complaint was handled by police officials.

The Weston Police Zoom account maxes out at 100 participants, normally far more than is needed. It was inadequate for Tuesday’s meeting. Town Hall’s account can handle 500 — also more than usually needed — but apparently the police, whose operation is separate from Town departments, opted to use their own.

For Thursday evening’s meeting, as we understand it, police officials have enlisted the assistance of Town staff to ensure adequate Zoom capacity.

Access to the meeting will be available at this Zoom link or by telephone at (646) 558-8656.

The meeting ID is 891 7608 5332. The passcode is 367542.
