Weston Library Scales Back

Beginning on December 17, the Weston Public Library will limit in-person services and will return to contactless curbside pickup for requested Library materials.

Books, movies, magazines and more can be requested through the Library catalog. Patrons will receive an email notification when the items are ready for pick up in the Community Room vestibule.

Appointments for computer access and for browsing the Children’s and Adult collections will be available in 15 minute increments. Appointments may be made by visiting westonpubliclibrary.org beginning December 14.

A coordinated move

The decision to reduce services was made in coordination with the Darien, Ridgefield, and Westport libraries due to the rising number of Covid-19 cases around the state and the expected increase over the holidays.

The libraries, all located in southern Fairfield County, often collaborate, since a change made by one will likely affect the others.

Digital and virtual unaffected

“The wellbeing of the Weston community and Library staff is our top priority,” said Director Karen Tatarka. “We understand the Library’s importance as the cultural and social hub of the community, and hope the reduction in services will be brief.”

“Over the past nine months, we have found that the community has embraced the Library’s new service models as a way to stay connected, and we appreciate the continued support. Reinstituting contactless curbside pickup will allow residents continued access to the Library’s physical collections. Access to digital collections and virtual programming for all ages will be uninterrupted.”

In response to the pandemic, the Library has increased its access to eBooks and audiobooks, and has launched a variety of new virtual programs to engage the community. Library staff will be available to answer questions by phone and email.

Ms. Tatarka said the Weston Public Library will continue to monitor the pandemic and make changes to operations when warranted.
