UN Day Flag Raising Ceremony, Friday

A flag raising ceremony at Town Hall on Friday morning, October 23, marks the 75th anniversary of the United Nations.

The one-hour event, sponsored by the United Nations Association of Southwestern Connecticut, starts at 10:00.

Following remarks by First Selectman Chris Spaulding, Eli Brennan, Secretary-General of Weston High School’s Model UN Club, leads the flag raising ceremony. Carina Giordano, the club’s Assistant Secretary-General, leads the Pledge of Allegiance.

Marjorie Nieuwenhuis, UNASWCT’s Education Director, reads a greeting message from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

At 10:30, WesTones performs John Lennon’s Imagine, as arranged by Momo Burns-Min (WHS Class of 2020).

After Mr. Brennan delivers remarks on the United Nations today, the event concludes with comments by actor and activist James Naughton.

Friday’s event takes place outdoors. The usual requirements for social distance and masks apply.
