Weston Ski Comes Up Big

Weston’s ski team competed in the State Team Giant Slalom qualifying race and turned in impressive results.

Weston High School junior Emma Nelson (pictured above) and senior Lauren Harris earned slots in the next qualifying round, finishing second and fifth respectively. Two freshmen boys, Chris Amato and Doug Phillips, also moved ahead, finishing seventh and thirteenth.

Ski coach Rich Fanning said the four “had great finishes and have a really good chance of making Team CT on Monday.”

The second qualifier is a slalom, where the top 30 racers from all divisions compete. Times from both qualifiers are combined to determine the 12 boys and 12 girls who will make up Team CT, which represents Connecticut at the Eastern High School championships at New Hampshire’s Attitash Mountain in March.
