WMS Chorus Wins Top Honors

In May, Weston Middle School musicians and the choral group traveled to Holyoke, Massachusetts for the annual Music in the Parks competition. A number of middle and high schools from New England participated in the competition. Weston received the top prize for every category for which they were eligible.

The Jazz Lab and Jazz Ensemble, led by Mr. Jeff Holmes, took first place. The Chamber Orchestra, led by Mrs. Meghan Stewart, also placed first in their division and and won for best performance overall by a middle school orchestra. The Chamber Singers, led by Mr. Evan Grace, finished in first place for their division and won best performance overall by a middle school chorus.

Weston Middle School won the highest award in the event, the Esprit de Corps, for the second year in a row. This award is given to the school with the most spirit, respect, and overall interaction with their group and teachers.

Two individual awards were given to seventh grader Karl Schulz: Best Piano Solo, performed in his appearance with the Jazz Ensemble, and Best Student Accompaniment, performed with the Chamber Singers.

Weston Today salutes this talented group of students and their instructors.
