Traveling in 2026: Part 2

Part 2 of 6 about traveling in 2026

When Travel Is About More Than the Destination

There are few travel experiences as inspiring as being surrounded by the majesty of nature. Arguably, few places can showcase the scale and wonder as well as our 50th state, Alaska. Towering glaciers, endless coastlines, misty fjords, and wildlife that feels almost cinematic. In quiet moments of awe, many travelers find that Alaska has a way of reminding people of how beautiful our world really is.

Through my experience, Alaska has a mythical reputation for many travelers. Alaska often lives on the “someday” list for years. It is talked about, it is imagined, it is bookmarked, and it is revisited in conversation, but rarely is it planned. Many travelers who have explored much of the country have never made it to Alaska, not because the interest is missing, but because questions around timing, routes, and how to experience it well can make the first step feel uncertain.

Alaska is every bit as striking and fascinating as Puerto Rico, Florida or Hawaii, and just as capable of creating memories that stay with you long after the journey ends. For travelers who value nature, Alaska is the crown jewel of the frozen north.

Why a Cruise Works So Well in Alaska

Alaska unfolds in vast fjords, towering glaciers, and wildlife-rich coastlines — shaped by a hand that never meant them to be seen all at once. This is where cruising excels. A ship carries you through dramatic landscapes while providing you with a steady and comfortable home. Then, the journey itself is the destination. Mornings begin with new scenery outside the window, afternoons offer opportunities to explore ashore, and evenings balance comfort, dining, and time to unwind. The rhythm feels natural in a destination defined by scale and distance. For travelers drawn to Alaska’s wilderness but mindful of comfort and pacing, cruising offers a way to experience both without compromise.

If Cruises Are Easy to Book Online, Why Does Planning Matter?

Alaska cruises are widely available to book online, and many travelers begin their planning there. While the process is straightforward, simplicity does not always translate into the best possible experience. I’ve found that for Alaska in particular, informed planning decisions can help shape how the trip feels from start to finish.

To me, flexibility is especially valuable. When travelers rely solely on standard options listed on a website, dates are often fixed early, flights are selected without exploring alternatives, and itineraries are built around a single version of the trip. Without realizing it, opportunities for better routing, pacing, or added value may remain unexplored.

When I pair my experience and understanding with flexibility, I find that trips open up in unexpected ways. Options expand, experiences align more naturally with personal interests, and destinations — that once felt out of reach — feel far more attainable.

From “I Do” to “Let’s Go”: Starting the Honeymoon Conversation

A honeymoon is often meant to feel different from the trips a couple has taken before. For some, the question becomes how to make this first trip as a married couple feel truly meaningful. Looking beyond the most familiar options can open the door to shared experiences that feel new and memorable, and destinations like Alaska, while less traditional, offer a sense of discovery and connection that can be especially powerful.

This coming weekend, I will be attending the 4th Annual Regional Chamber of Commerce Bridal Expo on Sunday, February 1st, where I will be meeting couples at all stages of the planning process. Whether you are just beginning to imagine what comes after the wedding day or refining ideas you already have, I would be happy to talk through possibilities. If you are attending the Expo, I would love to meet you.

Looking Ahead

Whether it is an Alaska cruise you have been dreaming about for years or the first trip you are planning together as a couple, flexibility often makes the difference between imagining a journey and truly enjoying it.

In the weeks ahead, this series will continue exploring destinations travelers are drawn to for 2026 and how thoughtful planning can help those ideas take shape in meaningful and rewarding ways.
