Letter: Alarm at Budget Cuts

To the Editor:

I am writing to express my alarm regarding the budget cuts to both the Town Operating budget as well as the Capital budget for the Town of Weston. I would like to echo the sentiments expressed here yesterday by David Muller, who was elected to the Police Commission and is a former Selectman.

I attended both nights of the ATBM and am outraged that no consideration was given to the fact that the Board of Finance — who are elected by the residents of Weston — worked diligently and thoughtfully for months with their respective partners and hosted a public hearing on the budgets, only to have their expertise and work disregarded and sabotaged at the 11th hour at a contentious and uncivil public forum.

It is unacceptable to me to have a very small minority rule on issues such as sidewalks and safety for our community. I consider having safe, treated, and maintained roadways to drive on after storms a priority, in addition to the safety of our town and its employees.

I ask that the two aforementioned budgets be reconsidered and reinstated by Board of Finance, with recommendations.
