Redding’s popular all-day Frog Frolic Festival returns on Saturday, May 4 with live music, food trucks, games and crafts, including bounce houses and a bubble garden for the littlest ones.

The event, put on by the Mark Twain Library, takes place outside, rain or shine, from 10:00 to 4:00 at the Redding Community Center, 37 Lonetown Road.

This year’s entertainers include the folk band Hitch and the Giddy Up and the Country-Americana group North County. Also, original rock from the local high school student trio VooDoo Dream and two new additions, Moonrise Cartel and the Joel Barlow Acapella Group.

Inspiration for the festival, which has welcomed the arrival of spring for more than 20 years, comes from Mark Twain’s short story, “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.” The first Frog Frolic raised money for art supplies. Since then, it has become a major fundraising event for the Mark Twain Library.

Additional Frolic attractions include a robust silent auction open to everyone for online bidding, and a karate demonstration.

Everyone is encouraged to bring a blanket or chair and stay all day. Parking and admission are free, as is the entertainment, which will run all day at the festival. Tickets can be purchased on-site to participate in games and crafts and for food items from the concession stand. Credit cards are accepted. Food truck fare will be available for purchase as well.
